Ashtead Renovation

Following the successful renovation of a neighbouring property, Inicio was entrusted with the transformation of this remarkable early twentieth-century home, originally designed by renowned architect C.F.A. Voysey. The brief was both ambitious and sensitive: to retain everything that made the house special while discreetly introducing the comfort, efficiency and functionality expected of contemporary family living.

Managing a project of this nature requires a careful balance between respecting the past and planning for the future. Extensive works included a new roof, replacement plumbing and electrics, underfloor heating throughout and significant improvements to the building’s thermal performance, all delivered with great care to preserve the property’s architectural integrity.

One of the defining features of the renovation is the addition of a magnificent stone-clad orangery, creating a seamless connection between the original house and the gardens beyond. Designed to complement the existing architecture rather than compete with it, the extension provides generous, light-filled living space while feeling entirely at home within the original building.

Throughout the project, original features were carefully retained and restored wherever possible, with every new intervention designed to sit comfortably alongside the home’s historic character. The result is a house that honours its architectural heritage while being thoughtfully equipped for another century of family life.
